Aerial lift equipment is an essential part of many industries for its ability to reach high places. There are three main types of aerial lifts, and although they all seem very similar, each has specific characteristics that make them better suited for specific tasks. Continue reading to get to know about scissor lifts, boom lifts, and telehandlers.

Scissor Lifts

Scissor lifts allow workers to be lifted on a platform that rests directly above the machine’s base. They are hydraulic platforms made to raise and lower heavy loads and workers.

Although these machines serve the same general purpose as ladders and scaffolding, they offer a much more reliable reach and carrying capacity.

Uses

The main uses of scissor lifts include heavy duty loading and unloading during projects. They can also be great as a permanent or semi-permanent installation in areas that workers regularly need ro raise and lower materials.

Boom Lifts

You may have heard the boom lift be referred to as a cherry picker, man lift or basket crane. These platforms can reach higher than scissor lifts and are built to move around obstacles. The design consists of a base, hydraulic lift system, and a platform. They are often attached to trucks or other vehicles.

Uses

Similar to scissor lifts, these machines are able to move materials and workers up and down, but they are able to reach greater heights and navigate troublesome obstacles.

Telehandlers

Lastly, telehandlers, or telescopic handlers, are aerial lifts able to handle rough terrain and operate like a forklift. Most models are equipped with 4WD capabilities and can reach heights upwards of 50 feet.

Uses

Most commonly you’ll find these machines being used in the agricultural industry, but they have also become common in construction and factory work. They are great for reaching materials in hard to reach cargo areas.

Whether you have a construction project to complete, materials to move, or fruit to pick, there is likely an aerial lift solution perfect for you.
